Dorothy V. Neel, 87, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, Sunday, December 31, 2006, after a brief illness. Memorial Services: 2 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home after 1 p.m. today.

Survivors include her husband Harold; 2 sons, Daniel Carol Neel of Marion and Thomas LeAnn Neel of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Cassie Gordon Varner of Louisville, KY; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Varner, Rebecca Brian Johnson, Steven and Amy Neel, Amy Ryan Tierney, and Rafferty Neel; 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Frances Steele of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Ruth Gorsuch.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents.

Dorothy was born September 28, 1919 in Grinnell to Elmer and Flora McGuinn Lindstrom. She married Harold Neel on October 10, 1944 in Cedar Rapids. Dorothy was employed by Square D Corp. for over 27 years, retiring in 1981. Dorothy spent her time giving and receiving the love of her family. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Mercy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Yacoub, Hospice of Mercy and the nurses at Mercy Medical Center ICU for their wonderful care.
