Virgil F. Johnson, 99, of 3190 5th Ave. Marion, died October 17, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital following complications of old age. Memorial Services: 1 PM Friday at First United Methodist Church of Marion. Pastor Mike Morgan will officiate. Friends may call at the church after 12:00 Friday. Private Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Survivors include sons Dennis Johnson of Marion, and Ronald Johnson and wife Lynne of Cedar Rapids; sister Clara Arnald of Ottumwa; grandchildren Corey, Chad, Gabriel, and Kelly Johnson and Lisa Dixson; great grandchildren Connor, Tucker, and Dacey.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Lorice, his parents, and brothers Ellsworth and Russell.

Virgil Fritchof Johnson was born May 19, 1907 in Chariton the beloved son of David F. and Ida F. Gustaffon Johnson. He married Lorice Mitchell on September 14, 1940 in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Triple-E Manufacturing in Marion for many years. In 1984 he went on a trade mission to China with then Governor Terry Branstad to help assist in current trade with foreign countries in Asia. Although not in the military, he was involved in an ongoing 2 year project that the Army and Air Force were attempting to drop heavy artillery out of airplanes. With his help and guidance he was able to complete the project in two weeks, which aided in ending the war in Europe. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Marion, and Marion Masonic Lodge #6.
