Mary Virginia "Ginny" Jacobs, 71, of 190 Cottage Grove Ave, SE, died Friday, June 30, 2006, in Cottage Grove Place following a short illness. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 7 PM on Sunday with a scriptural wake service and rosary beginning at 3 PM.
Survivors include two sons Mark Jacobs of Marion, and wife Gina of Ely, Matt Jacobs and wife Pam of Cedar Rapids. Two daughters Ann Woodard and husband Michael of Mukilteo, Washington, and Julie Frieden and husband Jeff of Cedar Rapids, two brothers John Groves and wife Sally, and Hank Groves and wife Carol of McHenry, Illinois, and eleven grandchildren, Shannon, Chelsea, Dylan, Kaitlin, and Bradley Jacobs, Matt Wedler, Henry and Tate Woodard, Courtney, Sara, and Vanessa Frieden, a special cousin Barbara Perry of Camp Point, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a niece Cris Marquette.
Ginny was born October 1, 1934 in Quincy, Illinois, to Jacob and Henrietta Rupp Groves. She married Richard "Jake" Jacobs on June 9, 1956 in Cedar Rapids. Jake died September 13, 2000. Ginny was the nurse manager for the operating rooms, employee health nurse, and worked in the OB and skilled nursing units at Mercy Medical Center for over 30 years. She was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed golf, the Cedar Rapids symphony, and loved sports especially Notre Dame Football.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy, or to All Saints Catholic Church.
