To Libby's family... I am saddened to learn of her passing. As you all know, I've known Libby since childhood and have many memories from elementary school through high school. I think the best, though, were our summers at Cheley's Girls Trail's End, where Libby could completely and sincerely be herself. She was truly in heaven there, where she could try anything, do anything, be anything...most memorable was her imitation of the Cowardly Lion which sent campers into uncontrollable laughter. I wish her peace. Fondly, Kathy McHugh Bauer

I am deeply saddened to learn of Libby's passing. She was a treasured friend that I will remember forever as one of the kindest people I have known. She was the first person I got to know in Phoenix back in 1984, and we became great friends. She and Skip came to Cedar Rapids to my wedding in 1988, and we stayed in touch over the years through Christmas cards and letters. I will never forget my first Christmas in Phoenix, without any family, Libby invited me to spend it with her and her family so I wouldn't be alone. I was blessed to have her as a friend. My deepest sympathy goes out to you all. Sincerely, Chris Bender Wehmeyer

Dearest Arnolds and Contards, Please accept my sincere condolences on Libby's passing. I was taken-back when I saw her picture in Sunday's Gazette. Although Helen had told me, before I went out of town, that Libby was gravely ill, I was hoping that she would pull through. I have so many childhood memories of Libby and your family. Most recently, I remember her coming to the Dows annual meetings; I still have the kind note she wrote me when the office closed. Certainly, I never had any inkling that her health was so precarious. I am terribly sorry that you have to go through such a painful time; I can't even imagine what it would be like to lose a sibling. Please take care of yourselves and know that you are in my thoughts. Love, Julie

Margaret, Helen, Duane, Mary Brother Peter sent me the notice and I send my sincere condolences. I listen somewhat regularly to NPR and would often hear reports from Libby Arnold from Oregon or Washington and would often wonder if that was our Libby I guess not now- but it always caused me to wonder what you were all up to and how you were doing. Not in CR very often- it was hard to keep up. Best to you all --- Teed

Dear Margaret, Helen, Mary, Duane and families, Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss of your sister, Libby. I had the pleasure of working with Libby at Perpetual Savings in Cedar Rapids before she moved to Phoenix and was able to get to know her sweet and fun character. She had a huge heart, and was a true friend and a joy to know. We had exchanged Christmas cards all these yrs, so sorry to learn that she was so ill, we will miss her. She will never be forgotten. To Margaret, Duane, Helen, and Mary ... I was so very sorry to learn of Libby's death. In my mind, she will always be that fiery spirit with a warm smile, a wicked sense of humor, and a tremendous laugh. What a woman! She is part of a unique SE-Cedar Rapids-60's-era clan. : Church youth group, Halloween trick-or-treating, Mrs. Bender the Lunch Lady at Johnson school, the time Henrietta washed the spinach in the washing machine ... all these smiles include your / our Libby. My parents referred to death as "being away the new" ... away to the new life. That she is,indeed. Wishing peace to you all, Alice McCabe and David Kesler

Dear Arnold Family I was so shocked and saddened to see Libby's obituary-especially at such a young age. Thank you for including the photo of her - she looked absolutely beautiful! I remember Libby from Johnson Elementary School and the fun sleep overs we had at her house. I last saw her when she worked at Perpetual Savings and I was at Armstrongs - I lost track of her and did not realize she was ill with MS. Her life was not always easy but, I'm sure she is at peace and I have been praying for her. God Bless yoy Libby. Thanks for the memories. Renee'Imoehl Weeter

Dear Arnold Family, I receive many updates from my Mother, Lillian Neff, about friends I grew up with in C.R. When I saw Libby's obituary arrive in my mail I was shocked and saddened. I knew Libby from Johnson Elem, Franklin and Washington H.S. and C.R. Country Club. I remember the long walks to/from school, Saturday morning rides on the bus downtown to try on clothes at Armstrongs, exchanging the "forbidden" pierced earrings, riding the elevator in her home and of course, her perfect rendition of the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz. I've thought of her many times during the years and will always have fond thoughts in my heart for Libby. Gay

Dear Arnold Family: I am deeply saddened to hear of Libby's passing, and extend my sympathy to all of you. She was part of our gang of friends from Johnson Elementary, to Franklin Jr. High, and on to Wash. Besides all the sleep-overs, either at her house, mine, upstairs of the garage! or other friends, we had many good times. I always respected Libby for being herself. It was good to read some of the other comments about her in her life beyond when I knew her--- she was truly a fun-loving, generous, loving soul. We will have fond memories of Libby always.
