Celebration of Life Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Turner West Funeral Home by the Rev. Rick Gail of First Assembly of God Church. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Bill is survived by two brothers, Donald C. Phyllis Oakes of Clinton, AK and Phillip L. Annalee Oakes of Shoreline, WA; and three nieces, Alice Phil Johnson, Joyce Oakes, and Anne Roger Strand.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hulda and Harley Oakes.

Bill was born in Cedar Rapids on September 12, 1924 and lived most of his life at 3004 Outlook Drive, Cedar Rapids. He never married. Bill attended Schaeffer Heights grade school and graduated from Wilson High School in 1942. Due to a childhood disease, he was not accepted by the services in WWII, and went to work for Peter Pan Bakery for five years and Sieg's for 37 years where he retired in 1989. He enjoyed buying and repairing used cars, having owned more than 100. He was a kind and gentle neighbor to all, and will be missed.

Many thanks to the staff at Hallmar Care Center for their outstanding care and love extended as a family to William during his stay. Thanks also go to the Mercy Dialysis Unit and Dr. Anne Voigts, his primary physician.

A memorial fund has been established.
