Thank you, Gramma, for all the kindness and help and love you gave me through the years. I will always think of you calling me, "my little girl", with warm feelings. I have missed you for such a long time. I know you are with Bub and fishing and laughing and that makes me happy. With my love...Jerry Ann

I have many memories of "Grandma Steine". I remember her love for fishing and taking us grandkids fishing with her in her little alumininum boat. I remember her giving me a "perm" in my hair before I was even one years old! I remember always popping into to JC Penney just to see if she was working. I remember the root beer floats she made us when Mom and Dad left us in her care! I remember the "tea parties" we had in the kitchen with the mini tea sets that were so precious to her. But what I remember best is her loving kindness, the twinkle in her eye and the eternal smile on her face. You will be remembered in my heart forever, Grandma..... Love, Cindy

"The Old Grey Mare Just 'Aint What She Used To Be" I always remember Gramma singing this song after her memory started to go... She'd always laugh and tell us all to count our blessings and make the most of each day. Gramma you will be missed, especially by my dad, as he spent a lot of time with you over the past 10 years. Say hello to Grandpa Steine. I always wished I had met him. He's probably been wondering what kept you. I love you. Gramma's Little Man Steve.

Dear Mom, All that I am today is because of the kind and loving Mother you were to me. The values you instilled in me -- unwaivering support of loved ones, hard work, and kindness to all -- will always be a part of my heritage. Your little sayings are forever etched in my mind - "One day at a time, and make the most of each day", "Count your blessings, quit your crabbing", and "If you're nice to people, they will be nice to you". I think of those phrases so often and realize how true they are! Through you I have learned the meaning of unconditional love. Thank you Mom, your loving and as you always said ONLY daughter, Georgie Ann

To the family of Alma, especially my cousins Ken and Georgie Ann: we are sorry for your loss and pray for you during this time. Roxann and I enjoyed reading the obituary in the paper-there were many things we didn't know or had forgotten. Ken, there are so many times over the past 14 years I have been an anesthesiologist in CR that people have asked if I am related to you-I tell all of them we are cousins, that we grew up in Decorah, and that your sister was my classmate in school. I really hope you both send me an email so I can get your addresses and try to keep in touch. Mark and Roxann Steine

Alma and Alva my dad both used to love to tell about their days together as children on the Buck farm near Plover. It was their job to do the milking and other farm chores. To pass the time they would sing "Ham and Eggs" at the top of their lungs while they were milking the cows. Alma was a delightful person. We all miss her.

Grandpa / Ken, You have been in our thoughts and prayers this week. Your undying love, devotion, and time spent with your mother through the years really spoke to me about the type of man you are. It's my hope one day that someone will do the same for each of us - in our own lives. Spending time with family is priceless. Our sympathy to you and your family at this time. I would like to imagine that she is playing some serious cards right now. Kind regards, Carrie and Max

Georgie. Your mom had a long, good life. Isn't it comforting knowing that she is in a place now where she's surrounded by loved ones passed and she's happy and pain-free! It is really a celebration of her life! I know you'll miss her too. Your friend always, Judy

Hi Grandma- The last two days have been a special time for all of us. There were many tears shed, but they were tears of happy memories and a testament to the wonderful grandma, mother, and person you are. Here are a few of my favorite memories of grandma and Decorah: Grandma in the kitchen, cooking and smiling, making meatballs and lefsa for us all to enjoy Playing cards on the little table in the kitchen. Being afraid of what was in the attic above the garage. The lava lamp in the TV room The orange recliner The creaking steps going upstairs Mabe's The cliffs overlooking Decorah The parade along time ago when the king of Norway came to town. Drinking real chocalate cokes at the soda shop on the corner. Grandma always being a wonderful, happy, and inspirational person for all of us. Grandma, you will be missed. Love, RJ

Dear Grandma, I will never forget how warm and loving your home was for us when we visited. You were always there with open arms, ready to give us the biggest hug and fill us up with a ton of sweets and good food. What a cook you were, too! One of my favortie memories was buttering warm lefsa in your kitchen while you worked on the rest of the mealand I'd eat about ten in the process!. I used to love looking at all the little things in your house that made it so special...the fish on the kitchen wall one of the biggest ever caught in that stream!, the silly pipe cleaner fish magnets on the fridge, the dolls with the crocheted dresses all over the bathrooms, the pictures of family and friends everywhere, the chair that spun around just right in family room...it all made your house so memorable and fun to be in. And as time went on and you moved away from Decorah, I so enjoyed our card games and walks at Walden Place. We'd sit and I'd tell you about my studies and my boyfriends! and you'd share stories from when you or my mom were young. I enjoyed those talks so much...I miss those talks. I will always remember your caring way, your warm smile, and of course your parting words each time I left..."The old gray mare she ain't what she used to be!" I love you so much Grandma. Thanks for being a wonderful part of my life. Melissa
