Dr. Joan Nickol-Tauke M.D.

Born in Monticello, IA
Born on Feb 15, 1934
Departed on Jul 11, 2024

A life well lived and a legacy to be remembered. Wishing Kathy, Jason and family strength and comfort during this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss. Eternal rest grant unto her, dear Lord, and let perpetual shine upon her. Nancy

I spent many happy childhood hours at the Tauke house - will never forget that cauldron "boiling" with dry ice one Halloween - and never minded going to the eye doctor, since she was a beloved neighborhood mom. I was impressed she was a doctor, of course, but I also took it for granted, and I feel fortunate now to have had a formative experience not every little girl did. To think that women couldn't even open bank accounts in their own names until 1974, among a myriad of other ways we were demeaned in the 60s, yet here was Mrs. Tauke having blazed a trail and making it all seem normal. Yet with everything going on in her fascinating life, what most touches me in her obituary is her commitment to the Catherine McAuley Center. She was the real thing. With love, appreciation and sincere condolences to Kathy, Jason and the rest of the family

As the 4th female doctor in Cedar Rapids, Dr. Nickol welcomed me to the "club" and was a role model. My late husband loved female doctors and went to Dr. Nickol for his eye care. She provided tethered balloon rides at our Diabetes Camp. She will be remembered for all of this and more. My deepest sympathy.

Fly high, Joan-----What a special friend you were to us and many others. Jim and Bonnie Thoma

Fly High, Joan! You were a friend to many! Jim and Bonnie Thomas

We are so so sorry for your loss. She sounds like an amazing woman!

My husband, Dr. Robert Keller often spoke of "Joanie" as he called her, as the grand person she was ~ honest, intelligent, and caring. With deepest sympathy for her family.
