Terry Smith

Born in Oelwein, IA
Born on Feb 11, 1941
Departed on Feb 28, 2014

I remember Terry very fondly while I worked at Bob Zimmerman Ford, dealing with him thru the dealership. He always ran a very honest and professional business and was always good to work with. Please accept my condolences.

We will always remember the kindness that Terry and family showed our family. From trips to Colorado to ski or at Lake Delhi. We are in Arizona and will not be able to attend the service. He will be in our prayers. Our sympathy to all of his family.

Rita and I were saddened to hear of Terry's passing this past Thursday. A very kind, generous man. Our entire family will miss him. May he rest in peace.

Dick and I have such fond memories of Terry...from Delhi to Florida he was always so much fun to be with. He had such a great sense of humor...always had a joke to tell. His smile and kindness to use will truly be missed. God be with you our friend.

To Terry's family, you have my deepest sympathy. I worked for Terry at Iowa Motors and when I left there, we still kept in touch through my work at the Delaware County Treasurer's office because of his property on Lake Delhi. One year he was late paying his taxes, so the standing joke was that I had to call him in March to remind him! How ironic that I had just made the note Friday to call him in the next couple of weeks; I will miss seeing him come to my office. He spoke with pride about all his family. He was a wonderful boss and a friend, he will be truely missed.

To the entire Smith family, we're sorry for your loss. It's good that you can all be together to help support one another as you work through this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you.

Our families have been intertwined for 50 years through Terry's friendship and kindness. He brought a smiling face to every occasion and left one on everybody there. One of the most recent times I saw him was at the grocery store - we talked for two hours. It was all about family, friends, and great times all around. He was as happy and proud as the good reason he has. Terry always had four projects going, he always did it 'his way', and it was always a help someone. Best remembrances from all of us to and with, all of you.

I graduated from Lamont High School in 1957 and knew Terry as a classmate. He always had a great sense of humor, and had the gift of remembering names, faces and locations. I admired Terry for his business acumen and success in his many business ventures. I would like to express my condolences to the Terry Smith family. Gary Kellogg

Roger, Jeff, and all... I'm so sorry to read of your dad's passing. The picture that you chose is perfect, I can hear him laughing just by looking at this photo. Terry, was always such a happy man and knew how to enjoy his life to the fullest! Such a great soul, he will be missed.

I met Terry as a wet behind the ears investment real estate salesperson in the early 90's and since that time had the pleasure of working with him on many real estate projects over the years. Terry was not only someone that I worked with but also someone I knew I could always contact for business help or advice and he was always willing to talk to me and work with me - always willing to take my call. Over the years Terry became a friend and one of the few key people that have helped me so much that I consider one of my mentors - he will be missed.

Terry and I worked together for several years at Iowa Realty Commercial. He was always ready with a laugh and what a memory he had for people and places. Terry was always on the move and looking forward to the next deal or venture. It was truly a pleasure to know and work with him.

Terry, You will be missed! I will never forget all the great memories I have of you growing up. Your smile was something I will always remember and many will carry with them to find comfort. May you rest in peace and know that you will always be remembered.

I worked with Terry all the year's that he owned Iowa Motor Company. We had a lot of good times and even some not so good. He taught me alot about his business. He was good to me and my 3 kids. He talked alot of his family, he was so very proud and loved you all very much. I will always remember his laugh. I think he truley enjoyed his life. Rest in peace my friend.

Merry, so sorry for your loss. Haven't been in touch with you guys for years. Hope all is well with you & your Family.

To the family of Terry. We have so many found memories of your father. We are truly sorry for you and have all of you in our prayers. There are so many good times to remember, high school, Lake Delhi, Florida. I would say Lake Delhi is the best of the memories. I think that is were we really got to know all of you the best. Jana, you would bring your john boat up to our cabin and away you, Nancy and Kathy would go. Terry would bring up his boat and take the girls water skiing, or he would being up the pontoon and we would take a lazy drive down to the dam for a bite to eat. Again, we have you all in our prayers and thoughts.

Just received several e-mail notices's of Terry's passing. Are sending our prayers and condolences to you, his family. Loras and I were classmates and graduated with Terry. We had the pleasure of being able to spend, just a few, very enjoyable times with him and some of his family over the years. Sorry for your loss in the Smith family. I had lots of good memories of playing cards with Terry & Dian in the late 60's & 70"s. When we moved to Walla Walla, Wa., Terry sold our house, so we could move on! My thoughts go to the family, Sharon Schmatt

We have lost contact thru the last few years but we remember a lot of good times early on as Terry worked with Dave at United Airlines. Terry was always thinking of ways to take on another adventure in his life, he always did well no matter what. All of you kids will not remember us much, but he was very proud of all of you. Remember all the good times, will be thinking of all of you as you go thru this difficult time. We are in Texas and will not be able to attend the funeral.

The memories we have of the Smith family. We were neighbors, in card club and spent such fun times at the cabin in Delhi. We remember when Terry went into real estate and he built our first house. He was a great guy and soooo much fun. We won't be able to come to services as we are in Florida for the winter, but our thoughts and prayers are with you. Pete and Sara Palmer

Our sympathy to all of you. We first met Terry & Jerry on a cruise to the Cayman Islands about 8 years ago. What a wonderful time we had and how we so enjoyed their company. He was a great guy and will forever be remembered. May the good memories of times shared help you through this difficult time.

I am so sorry to hear that Terry has passed. I met Terry back in 1997 when I was working for Landmark Development. I was just 24 years old then and even though Terry was much older than me, his fun, loving, FLIRTY :) personality told otherwise. It has been probably 13 years since I've seen Terry, but hearing he has passed brought back a lot of GREAT memories! Your smile and laugh will never be forgotten! Thanks for the memories Terry!

It's really hard to imagine that someone like Terry, who was so full of vim and vigor, is no longer around. We had some amazing times with him out on the deck staying up really late enjoying liquid refreshments while watching stars and meteor showers up at Delhi. Then he'd be 'up and at em' the next morning while we could barely get up to make coffee! That guy was AMAZING! I think my favorite Terry memory was his surprise party in Ft. Myers, when we all had pictures of Terry heads on when he walked into the house and we yelled surprise. Which totally stunned him and surprised him until he walked around the corner and saw his baby grandson Kyan...Tears were running down his cheeks because he was so happy to have him there and so surprised! That was SO SWEET! Anyway, I love all of you Smiths and I'll miss those fun times with Terry. Please send him off surrounded by love and light for me!LOVE YOU!

Dearest Smith family We sold real estate with Terry, had many great times with Terry! He had so much energy, vim and vigor. Bev is in Mercy Hallmar (2yrs) with Alzheimers but I know would agree 100% with me. We send our Heartfelt Thoughts with our Prayers to all the Smith family & may he rest in Eternal Peace. God Bless and Peace be with all of You. Bob & Bev

I was shocked,as im sure manay other people where,to open sundays paper to see Terry had passed.I haven't seen Terry for many years, but cherished working for him as his service manager at Terry Smith Honda Subaru from 1980 to 1985. He had the guts to hire a 22 year old as his service manager, and had faith that it would work out,and it did.I was honored not only to meet his family, but a lot of his friends. My wife is even a cousin on the Smith side of the family.I'm sadened that I did not know he was ill, because I would have loved to talk with him.Terry lived life to the fullest, full throttle and never looked back. As my mentor in the car business always told me (SOONER OR LATER,WE ALL GO OUT IN A CADILLAC). Terry,we had a great ride.God bless to his family

Lots of fond memories of working with and for Terry at Iowa Realty Commercial. He made each day fun, plus he brought Nancy in to work for him and she added a big spark to each day. I can't forget Geri either. She welcomed us all to Delhi. I called Terry on his birthday to tell him we were in Phoenix. He was thrilled for us and proceeded to tell me all the places we should visit while there! He will be missed. Sorry I can't be there to see you, Nancy and Geri. Linda

Roger - I'm very sorry to hear about your father, I did have the opportunity to meet him over the years and enjoyed his great sense on humor. He always remembered me by name. I also lost my father 5 years ago. Both too young, sorry for your loss. Deb

Roger, Jeff, Nancy, and Jana, I know it's been awhile. I'm so sorry for your loss. Just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you from around the globe. So many memories on Vine Avenue South East! Let alone, just growing up in Cedar Rapids. With warmest regards, Julie
