Memorial

Merle Lee Krug, 84, of Marion, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Garden of Tranquility. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will follow for family and friends. 
 
Merle was born on May 29, 1941, in Boone, IA, the son of Martin and Lydia (Mindeman) Krug. After graduating from high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids. He married Mary Wheat in 1967. They later divorced. Merle was an avid woodcarver and enjoyed membership in the Cedar Valley Woodcarvers. He also enjoyed making homemade wine and beer. Merle was also a faithful member of FaithLife Church in Marion.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Lydia (Mindeman) Krug, brothers Vernon Robert Krug, Eldon Charles Krug, Donald Dean Krug, and sister Leona Krug Boyd.

Survivors include his son Matt (Rachel) Krug of Mount Vernon; grandsons, Jackson and Brayden Krug of Mount Vernon; sister, Doris (Krug) Simmons of Boone, and 13 nieces and nephews.
