Kay Marlene Fischer, 90, of Peoria, Illinois, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away June 20, 2026, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. A Graveside Service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, IA with inurnment to follow.
Kay was born on May 22, 1936, in Lowden, IA, the daughter of Walter and Lillian (Dreyer) Brendes. She met Francis (Frank) Fischer while they were both working for the Department of Civil Defense. They were married on September 12, 1957, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The couple remained in Cedar Rapids and began their family. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Frank passed away in 2012. Kay worked as a receptionist/bookkeeper for Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors. After retirement, she volunteered at the Mercy Medical Center gift shop. In retirement, Kay and Frank spent their winters in Mesa, AZ, where they had fun with their crazy group of friends. Kay loved to be around her family and playing games, playing cards, golfing and entertaining friends. She was sweet, kind, loving and spunky with a quick wit and sense of humor that still managed to make an occasion appearance in her later years.
She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, IA. Both her and Frank spent countless hours volunteering at Knights of Colombus events. After Frank passed away, Kay moved to Peoria, IL to be close to family.
Survivors include her children, Craig Fischer and Denise (Steve) Stockman; grandchildren, Chelsea Green (Lindsay), Nathan Rohlf (Jalynn), Michael Fischer (Brooke), and Kevin Fischer (Kimberly); great-grandchildren, Knox, Cole, Jace, Maddie, Violet, Mackie, James, William, Alex, and Laif; and daughter-in-law, Janice Fischer.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; infant twin daughters, Linda Jean and Laura Ann; and siblings, Kenneth Brendes and Sharon Kruckenberg.
