It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cynthia Vernon, a remarkable soul who touched the hearts of many. Cynthia peacefully departed this world on April 14, 2026, after a courageous short battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion. She was 79 years old. A celebration of Cynthia's life will take place on May 1, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, located at 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404. The family invites all who knew her to join in honoring her remarkable life.
Born on December 19, 1946, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Cynthia was the cherished daughter of Carl Kent Knight and Audrey Knight. Growing up in a household filled with love and kindness, she carried these virtues throughout her life, enriching the lives of all she encountered. Cynthia was a beacon of strength and love in her family.
She married her beloved husband, Jimmy Vernon, 58 years ago, and together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support for one another. Her love and dedication extended to her children, Tanya, Michael (Nicole), Scott, and Brian (Susan), who were blessed to have a mother who always put others before herself. Her nurturing spirit and wisdom were also a blessing to her five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish the fond memories they created.
She graduated from Marion Highschool in 1965 and went to earn her CNA license from Mercy in Cedar Rapids and devoted over 30 years of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her compassionate and hardworking nature made her a cherished colleague and friend to many in the healthcare community.
Cynthia's zest for life was evident in her love for the outdoors, where she found joy in camping and exploring nature. Whether she was driving a golf cart around or playing Rummy and Old Hell with her family, her laughter was infectious and her spirit, uplifting. A talented cross-stitcher, puzzle enthusiast, and avid Bingo player, Cynthia embraced life's simple pleasures with enthusiasm and grace. Her adventurous spirit led her to travel to new places, always seeking to learn and experience the world around her.
Those who knew Cynthia will remember her as a resilient woman with an unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Her kindness, generosity, and ability to find beauty in everyday moments will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Cynthia is predeceased by her loving parents, Carl and Audrey Knight, and her mother-in-law, Janette Jamison. Her family finds comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with them in eternal peace.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport an organization close to Cynthia's heart, reflecting her love and care for all living beings.
