Memorial

Jesus welcomed our sweet mom, grandmother, and friend, Shirley Ann Hamre, (91) home on September 15, 2025, surrounded by family and so much love. Heaven gained a saint. Her life was a tapestry woven together with unwavering faith, prayer and commitment to family.

A life on this earth is ultimately remembered based on character, and degree of caring and love that this individual has imparted into the lives of family members, friends and even casual acquaintances. Career successes or any other accomplishments in this life do not compare with the impacts to people's lives that are based on the heart. Those are the attributes that generate family legacies and lasting memories.

Shirley was born on January 11, 1934, in northern Minnesota to Alfred and Sophie (Larson) Renne. She was a 1951 graduate of Fertile-Beltrami High School in Fertile Minnesota. She married the love of her life, David Hamre, on October 3, 1953, in Rindal, Minnesota. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Her surviving family includes her son, Jay (Kathy) Hamre of St. Louis, Missouri and her daughter, Diane Mathes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her seven grandchildren include Michael (Patty), Melissa, Nicole (Michael), Amanda and Eric (Liv), Sean, and Katelyn (Lathan), and her four great grandchildren, Mandi, Dakota, Louis and Aidan. A brother David (Darlene) Renne of Alexander, Minnesota.

Her legacy of love, resilience and devotion will continue to shine brightly through her family and friends, reminding us of all the profound impact one life can have on others. She has reunited with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A remembrance in honor Shirley's life will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories on Friday, October 17, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00am, followed by the service at 11:00am. A reception for family and friends will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church following a private burial.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Shirley’s home church.
