Memorial

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard "Rich" James Edward DeMeulenaere, a cherished husband, stepfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on July 7, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born on September 20, 1954, to Vincent Charles DeMeulenaere and Kathryn Cristine Low.

Rich was preceded in death by both his parents and Brother in law Craig Dunlap who was a dear friend of Peggy’s dad and family.

Rich’s life was a testament to love, loyalty, and service. He graduated from Regis High School in Cedar Rapids, IA in 1972, and soon after began a remarkable 42-year career at Quaker Oats, where he dedicated himself to his work until his retirement in 2016. His coworkers will remember him as a devoted worker who brought the same commitment to his job as he did to his family and friends.

Rich was happily married to Peggy Ann DeMeulenaere on September 20, 1997, at All Saints Catholic Church, a place that held a special significance in their lives. Together, they shared many beautiful moments that they cherished deeply.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife, Peggy; his stepson, John Allen Goodwater Jr.; and his sister, Karen Ann Dunlap and his nieces and nephews. His DeMeulenaere and Walker-Boleyn family was the cornerstone of his existence, and he was always there to lend a helping hand or a listening ear, demonstrating his unwavering love and commitment.

An avid sports enthusiast, Rich was a passionate fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Kansas City Chiefs and The Chicago Cubs. He found joy in attending sporting events and participating in outdoor activities such as fishing. He had a special fondness for gathering with friends and to celebrate life’s little moments, highlighted by attending Rich and Peggy’s nieces and nephews, the Dunlap family’s sporting events and other activities. For Rich, Peggy, and Peggy's father Russ, following Hartwick Ladora Victor (HLV) High School sports and other events in Victor, Iowa, means a great deal. It truly touches their hearts to support their cousins, their cousins' classmates, friends, and their parents. This includes a special focus on the nieces and nephews of the Dunlap family, as well as Barker family and DeMeulenaere Family and friends at all their events.

Rich was devoted to his family and loyal to his catholic faith. He took pride in supporting the Victory Noll and Mary Knoll sisters and participated in various events with them.

As we remember Rich, we celebrate a life a legacy of love for his family that will continue to inspire all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A visitation will be held in his memory on Tuesday July 15, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, A rosary will begin at 4:30pm conducted by Rich and Peggy’s dear friend Pat at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
