Memorial
David Henry Krahling, known to most as Dave or Bubba, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with vascular dementia. He was 83 years old.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Friday, August 15th at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa at 12 p.m. The family will greet visitors from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the church. A reception will follow.
Dave was born on December 31, 1941 — arriving just 15 minutes before his twin sister, Linda, which was a surprise to his parents. He lived his entire life in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa area, a community he loved.
Dave graduated from Washington High School in 1960. He began his career at Collins Radio (later Rockwell International) in 1961. Aside from a short stint at Eby’s Sporting Goods, he spent his entire working life at Rockwell, where he was a respected colleague and friend to many. After retirement, he stayed active golfing and working part-time for several local delivery companies.
In 1963, Dave married Betty Bowser. During the next four years they had two daughters, Deb and Kelly. As much as he loved Betty and his girls, Dave’s true calling was that of grandpa. Together, Dave and Betty made it a priority to spend time with their grandchildren—traveling to see them, welcoming them for visits in Cedar Rapids, all while creating treasured memories.
Their grandchildren have memories filled with popcorn parties, movie nights, building basement forts, sunset deer watching, golfing, riding in and driving the golf cart, trips to Wrigley Field, horseback riding, feeding baby calves on a working farm, baking together and many more. At every high school event — whether hockey or volleyball in La Crosse or basketball and baseball in Kansas City — Dave and Betty cheered loud and proud.
An avid sports fan, Dave especially loved fast-pitch softball, both playing and managing. He proudly managed the Collins softball team for many years. The team won the 1976 Iowa State Championship and made a trip to the national tournament. Lasting bonds with his players were made, and in 2001, he was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Softball Hall of Fame, an honor he deeply treasured. He loved the Chicago Cubs and attended several spring trainings. He also traveled with friends to watch the Cubbies play in person.
Dave is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; his dear twin sister, Linda of North Liberty, IA; daughters, Deb (Chris) Schneider of Prairie Village, KS, and Kelly (Kurt) Ziegelbein of La Crosse, WI; grandchildren, Scott Buchheit (Danielle) of Cedar Rapids, Zach (Kiersten) Schneider of Waukee, IA, Sam (Alex) Schneider of Kansas City, MO, Ben Ziegelbein of Minneapolis, MN, Jake Ziegelbein of Minneapolis, MN, Will (Sophia) Schneider of Prairie Village, KS, and Abby Ziegelbein of Madison, WI; great grandson, Henry, of Waukee, IA, and honorary grandson and neighbor, Ridesh Basnet.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry (d. 1954) and Thelma (d. 1984) and his older sister Jan (d. 2012).
Special thanks to the staff at Milestones Adult Day Care, the place where Dave spent 5 days a week for several years. He enjoyed the time spent there and his visits provided much needed respite for Betty.
Dave will be remembered for his kindness, unconditional love for family and friends, and the laughter and warmth he brought to everyone around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to one the following in Dave’s memory: Milestones Adult Day Health Center at
