Memorial

Christopher Michael Young, 52, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday January 22nd, 2025.  A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 30, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Chris was born November 23,1972, to Everett and Linda Young in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Marion High School in 1991. After high school he got into the roofing and construction industry. There wasn’t any project you could throw at him that he couldn’t do.  He had his own business “Young Construction” and was passionate about his work. He got many calls from friends needing bailed out from a project that took a turn for the worse or they just needed his expert advice. He was always there to help without hesitation.

In addition to his business, Chris was currently working for Benchmark, Inc where he started as a Roofing Field Consultant in September of 2007.  He brought with him a wealth of commercial roofing and safety knowledge, both of which have served Benchmark well over the years. On the safety side of things, he has served as the company’s Safety Director, contributed significantly to the Safety Committee, was OSHA certified and provided OSHA training to Benchmark employees.

He loved Harleys, hunting, going boating with his boys and cared deeply for his family, friends and girlfriend of over 10 years. Under his tough exterior he was kind and thoughtful to his core. He loved surprising others out of the blue with a gift he heard them mention at one time and knew they would love.  He would follow it up by saying…  “Don’t tell anyone I’m that nice. It will ruin my image”.

Chris is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Cammi Coleman; his children, Shale, Blayden, Talyn and Kovey Young; his mother, Linda Young and siblings, Jon (Cindy) Young, Sara (Darrell) Krsek and Brian Young as well as his nieces, nephews and so many friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Trae; father, Everett Young; grandparents, Cleland Young, Irene (Bill) Richardson and Lee and Elizabeth Raymond.

He is going to be missed beyond measure.
