Memorial Visitation, Tuesday, February 25, 2025 9:00 am until the 10:00 am Funeral Mass at St. Jude Catholic Church, 50 Edgewood Road NW, Cedar Rapids.
Scott’s childhood was spent down by the Cedar River fishing and messing around with his best friend, Dennis Roloff. Immediately after graduating high school, he enlisted in the army and got married. While stationed for a short time in Germany, his daughter Shay was born. Most of his army career was spent stationed in Alaska. Scott was extremely proud of his 7 years of service and was forever Sergeant Pameticky. He left the army when his first marriage ended and moved on to get his first college degree in Geology. He didn’t get to use his Geology degree as he stayed in Cedar Rapids and got into the plastics industry and returned to Germany during this time. Dennis influenced Scott once again when he asked him to help coach girls’ sports. Scott then realized his real calling was to be a teacher. He went back to college and ended up student teaching at Washington HS with Bill Desmarais who introduced him to his sister, Julie, and a little over a year later, they were married. After 3 years in the Chicago area teaching, they returned to Cedar Rapids where their daughter, Taylor, was born. Scott taught at Linn Mar the first year in CR and then got his dream job at Washington HS. Life settled into a comfortable routine of teaching, spending summers on vacations mostly out West, hiking, biking and camping, and keeping fit through running and walking. He enjoyed vacations in and out of the country - a highlight was when he was able to fly over an erupting volcano in Hawaii - a Geologist’s dream. After converting to Catholicism, he was very active in his church being a greeter and taking communion to the homebound and nursing homes. His last 9 years were spent defying Early Onset Alzheimer’s.
Scott is survived by his wife of 28 years, Julie (Desmarais), daughters, Taylor Pameticky and Shay (Edward) Williams; grandchildren, Kristina (Lee) Dunbar and Mason Sanders; sibling, Diana Pameticky Tharp; niece, Tara (Chris Golien) Cronbaugh; and nephews, Todd (Jocelyn) Miller, and Sebastian Bliss.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Francis and Ivy (Scott) Pameticky.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Mercy and the Alzheimer’s Association.
