Alice was born on November 5, 1948, in Independence, Iowa, the youngest of seven children of Bill and Helen Venneman. She grew up on their family farm where she developed a strong work ethic and an appreciation for nature. After working for Wilson Foods, Alice went to Mount Mercy College and obtained a bachelor’s degree. She then built a career in customer service at Alliant Energy where she worked for 24 years until her retirement in 2014. Alice had two children, Dylan Roy and Emily Joy Venneman. Alice married Jon Stork on February 23, 1991.
Alice found great pleasure in baking, tending her home, gardening, and working in her yard. She had a special love for flowers and took great pride in her garden. She enjoyed working out and had a great group of friends from her gym who regularly went out for coffee together. Alice was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish. Most important to Alice was the network of family, friends and neighbors she and Jon nurtured through the years. She had a kind and generous spirit, making those around her feel loved. She also had a deep bond with her Vizslas, Nellie and Zoe, who brought her companionship and joy.
Alice is survived by her husband of 34 years, Jon; her son, Dylan Venneman (Nina Kantiya); her daughter, Emily Williams (Markeese); grandchildren, Xavier and Xathan Williams; siblings, Louise Hageman, Judy Colbert, and William, Jr.; sister-in-law, Helen Venneman; mother-in-law, Harriet Stork; sister-in-law, Susan Stork; brother-and sister-in-law, David and Debra Stork; and nieces, Carly Stork and Krista Stork. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Helen Venneman; siblings, Mary, James, Jack (Mae); brothers-in-law, Al Hageman and Mike Colbert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alice’s name to Unity Point Health - St. Luke’s Hospital Palliative Care or TreesForever.org to honor her love for caregiving and nature.
