Jean was born on June 21, 1932, in Iowa City Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Blanch Goody. After high school graduation, she taught dance at Arthur Murray Dance Studio and worked at Singer Sewing Machine in Iowa City. It was at Singer Sewing Machine where she met a handsome and charismatic salesman named Stew Salter. They married on April 23, 1952, and built a life together for 54 years until his passing in 2006. For the past 15 years, she enjoyed the companionship of Bill Wendell.
Left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy are: Daughter, Renea Salter Solmonson (Denny), Son, Scott Salter (Christine), Bill Wendell, Grandchildren Amie Havlik, (Jes) Damon Salter (Stacy), Clint Salter (Ashley) Dustin Salter (Lisa), Alec and Jake Salter and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Stew, first-born son, Stewart, and brother Richard Goody.
Jean was a professional seamstress and enjoyed painting, boating, riding her own motorcycle and, at the age of 50, decided to give modeling a go at Avant Studio. Nature was her refuge and she enjoyed being outside working in her flower garden and doing yard work into her 90’s.
Jean will be remembered for her unwavering faith, determination, resilience and infectious laugh. She was a force to be reckoned with and pushed the limits for a woman her age. She appreciated the gift of life and mobility every day.
A special thank you to Dr. Maria Doce and the staff at Mercy Hospital for the care and compassion exhibited during her 10-day hospital stay. We are forever grateful.
