Memorial

Mark James Deyo, 63, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 5, 1960, in Rochester, MN; Mark was the beloved son to James and Patricia (Roseke) Deyo. 

Mark attended George Washington High School and went on to pursue a career in woodworking and residential and commercial painting.  He married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Liz” Deyo on March 27, 2004, in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Mark was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Liz; mother Patricia; children, Steve Deyo, Brittany (Nick) Kelly, Matthew (Randi Drahovzal) Kitchens, and Tyler (Michaela) Deyo; grandchildren, Jordyn Kelly, Charlee Kelly, Declan Kelly, Kaden Kitchens, Shayne Kitchens, Blakely Deyo, and Stella Deyo; siblings, Michelle Deyo, and Marci (Sheila) Bragg-Deyo; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded into death by his father, James Deyo; sons Brandon and Brent; and nephew Seth Kuba. 

Mark was an avid sports fan; always cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Vikings (he bled purple and gold), and Indiana Fever.   He had a passion for bodybuilding, old western movies, attending the Vikings spring training camps, and tropical vacations. But more than anything, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Mark left a lasting impact on those in his life and is loved by all. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 9:00am at the Cedar Memorial Stateroom. The memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, October 10, 2024, in the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  Friends and family are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life immediately following the service at The Viking Lounge, 1971 16th Ave SW, Cedar Rapids. If you feel inclined, we welcome you to wear either Iowa Hawkeyes or Minnesota Vikings gear to both the memorial and Celebration of Life. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mark’s memory to the University of Iowa Cancer Center.

Mark will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. SKOL!
