Memorial

Jeanette (Cleghorn) Young, 90, of Cedar Rapids, was called home by her Heavenly Father Sunday, October 29, 2023 from health complications.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov 18, 1:00pm at Oakland Church of the Nazarene. Interment at Palo Cemetery, Palo, IA  will be at a later date yet to be determined.

Survivors include her daughter Roxanne Portzline (Bob) of Coggon, Bruce Young (Shellsburg), and Nora Young (Cedar Rapids), 3 grandchildren: Brandy Whitby, Jesse Sheriff, Summer Null, several great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Barbara Cleghorn and many extended family members.

Jeanette was preceded in death by husband Thomas C. Young and daughter T. Dorene Young. Also by sisters, 4 bothers (including twin brother Gene) and their parents.

Jeanette was born April 19, 1933 to Charlie E. and Florence E. (Fuller) in Cresco, Iowa.  She married the love of her life Thomas Clifford Young on January 22, 1956. They were married 38 years. In her young adulthood, Jeanette worked as a beautician and at Collins Radio but her lifelong career was Mom and Grandma of which she superbly excelled. She loved Jesus and was very fond of butterflies, watching animal videos and programs, a special MOM ornament and her two stuffed little piggies. She loved Bingo and going to the casino before her health declined. 

Though we miss her greatly we find comfort knowing she’s no longer entrapped within a frail chrysalis of a mortal body but has been changed to a new beautiful spirit vibrantly alive flying freely in heaven with Jesus.
