Robert “Bob” Donald Wild, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on May 4, 2023, from pancreatic cancer.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-11:00am on Friday, May 12th at St. John Lutheran Church (306 2nd St. E, Newhall, IA 52315), with the funeral service and lunch immediately following.
Bob is survived by his wife, Jean; four children, April (Cory) Stull, Brian Wild, Marcy (Jesse) Cooksley and Sarah (Brad) Randall; seven grandchildren, Courtney Stull, Caleb Stull, Bronson Wild, Andria Stull, Zane Wild, Bentley Wild and Sennah Cooksley, as well as Karley Urell, his honorary granddaughter; a great-granddaughter, Raelynn (Stull) Weitnauer; two brothers, Rick (Dorothy) Wild and Larry (Margot) Wild, one sister, Linda M. Wild; two brothers-in-law, Rob “One-Eye” (Shelley) Koopman and Tom Koopman, one sister-in-law, Ruth (Richard) Kimm; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was born on September 23, 1948, to Vernon and Dorothy Wild in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1967. He entered the U.S. Army in 1968, completed a tour in Vietnam from 1968-1969 receiving an honorable discharge in 1971. Prior to his service, he worked at Schallau Motors and following his time in the armed forces, he proudly served the Chevrolet family at Grovert Motor Co. in Newhall, IA for 47 years from 1971-2018. For 11 of those years, he also worked at the Newhall Locker and most recently was employed for 9 years at Theisen’s in Vinton, IA.
Bob’s passions were working on anything with a motor, relishing time with his family, enjoying the outdoors and helping his wife, Jean, with her mowing business. Bob loved his country and was a proud veteran. He went on the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight in September 2018 with his daughter Marcy, which was an honor to be recognized that day and he spoke of it often. His sense of humor was unmatched – anyone who knew Bob well also knows that ‘harassment’ is required and should be expected!
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, brother John A. Wild, sisters-in-law Linda R. Wild and Karen Wild, Uncle and Aunt Donald and Ruth DeVault and grandson, Blake Stull.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Bob Wild’s honor to either St. John Lutheran Church, Central Lutheran School, American Legion Post 0167 or Newhall Fire Department/First Responders.
