Memorial

Ramona “Mona” Rae Schultz passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories.  

Mona was born March 13, 1948, to Floyd Lewis and Alpha Faye (McCart) Kotenbrink in Hampton, Iowa. She graduated from Ackley Geneva High School in 1966 and later from the Medical Institute of Minnesota in 1967. She received her degree in Lab and X-ray technology. Mona was united in marriage in 1967 to Dennis Lee Schultz of Ackley, Iowa. She worked at the Monticello Hospital as an x-ray and lab technician for twenty years and retired from the State of Iowa after twenty-one years in the Hygienics Lab Water Department. 

She was a devoted mother, and grandmother. She never missed a wrestling meet, football game, or any of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events or their fine arts activities.  She hosted Thanksgiving for 55 years for all her family and any friend who needed a place to celebrate.  Her true love was anything motorcycles.  She loved traveling and watching any dirt bike event with her husband, Denny. She supported him, her sons’, and her grandchildren’s dirt bike events.  She actively promoted the Anamosa Hill Climb with her family from 1965 until the day before her death.  She was responsible for everything from the food stand in the early days to every aspect of the behind-the-scenes to ensure the events were successful. Mona was also passionate about ADHD and led the CHADD chapter of Linn County for many years. Mona and Denny enjoyed going to the University of Iowa Women’s basketball games, where she was a gold card member since 1989.

She is loved by many and will be missed by everyone whose path she crossed.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis “Denny” Schultz of Anamosa, Iowa; her children, Wade (Julie) Schultz of Lisbon, and Lane (Amy Straub) Schultz of Springville; grandchildren, Haiden “Hank” Smith of Anamosa, Emily Schultz of Lisbon, and Slayton Straub of Springville; brother-in-law Lowell (Roni) Schultz of Independence; sister-in-law Donna Boren of Grundy Center; several nieces and nephews, and many friends who loved and cared about her.

Mona was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, Deloris.

A memorial fund has been set up in Mona’s honor. Memorials may be directed to Denny Schultz to be donated at a future date.
