Marvin F. Drenter, 97, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, from 11 AM – 1 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Services will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 1:00 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Pastor Randy Goodson officiating. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Marvin F. Drenter, under the video tab starting at 1:00 PM, July 5, 2023. Burial with military honors will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at New Beginnings Church, 910 Boyson Ct., Hiawatha, IA 52233.

Surviving is his daughter, Cathy Munson of Cedar Rapids; son, Richard (Karen) Schwerdtfeger of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Jessica (Munson) Burke, Amber (Sean) Morrison, Katherine (David) Wythe, Joseph (Michele) Schwerdtfeger, and David (Jana) Schwerdtfeger; seven great grandchildren, Maddison, Alyson, Cole, Taylor, Jessica, Piper, and Eliza; and one great great grandchild Griffin. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene, on August 2008; his parents; son, Joseph Schwerdtfeger; and brother, Milton Drenter.

Marvin was born January 10, 1926, to Frank and Velma (Mathias) Drenter in Davenport. Marvin was in the 7th Infantry Division in Okinawa during WWII and was honorably discharged as a SSG in April 1946. He married Charlene Taylor on July 25, 1964, in Galena, Illinois. He worked for various companies as a sales representative and manager in Iowa and Illinois. He drove the school bus for Benton County and Vinton Shellsburg for over 30 years. Marvin and Charlene also farmed two farms in Jackson County. He liked driving midget race cars, he would build his own and drive them off and on for 26 years. Marvin also enjoyed drawing farm tractors, barns, and house yards. He was a member of the Blairstown Legion Post 170. Marvin was an active member of New Beginnings Church.

He loved all of his family and was active with them.
