Dear Patty and family: Sending prayers and sympathy your way. We always enjoyed returning to Oelwein and attending Sacred Heart Mass as we always were greeted by the McBride’s. Always so helpful and always with a smile. John always asked about how the basketball team was going to be and showed such an interest in us. He will be missed by many. Strength to all during this difficult time. Love from Bellevue, Iowa. Jim & Linda Squiers

Truly, one of the good guys is gone. Always a smile. A great laugh. A kind word. An amazing wife and children. A community supporter. A fabulous friend to so many. Surely, John will be missed.

We are so sorry to hear about John’s passing. As you know and will hear over and over again, John was soft spoken, kind, and always had a smile. He was such a good man. May peace replace your heartache and warmest memories remain. Big hugs from us.

John gave me a friendly smile and a laugh every time I every time we ever met since the first time probably at Ed & Tom's Lounge at the VFW back in July 1973 when Iowa lowered the drinking age to 19 and the night I first started clearing tables!! Best wishes Pat--he was a good good man.
