Memorial

After battling Alzheimer’s for several years, Ed passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of Friday, September 30, 2022.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be held in the Garden of Reflection, Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ed is survived by his devoted wife, Edie; their 4 children, David (Martha), Joseph (Jenni), Martin, and Christina (Michael Wright); 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren; as well as his 4 siblings, Cletus, Bob, Jackie and Nancy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Stella; his in-laws, Alice and Clyde; and his daughter-in-law, Jenni.

Edgar Floyd Wise was born June 2, 1939, in North Middleton Township, Pennsylvania, the son of Oren and Stella (Mooney) Wise. Ed graduated from Boiling Springs High School in 1957 where he participated in sports. After graduating, he enlisted as an Electronics Technician in the US Navy. On July 9, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Edithann Martin in Carlisle, PA. Ed and Edie moved to Marion in 1964, where he worked as a technical writer for Rockwell Collins for 32 years.

Ed was an avid bowler and coach, holding various offices within the Cedar Rapids Bowling Association; he was a member of Marion First United Methodist Church volunteering his time and playing on their summer softball league. Ed and Edie spent many years volunteering within the Marriage Encounter Community in Eastern Iowa.  Ed and Edie moved to Florida for their early retirement where they became active in Grace United Methodist Church and volunteered in a reading mentor program for local school children.
Ed will be fondly remembered for his bad puns, quick wit, and hearty belly laugh.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to Marion First United Methodist Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.
