Donald “Don” Eugene Smith went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 1st, 2022.

Don was born June 6, 1927, and passed away at the age of 95. He grew up and went to school in Ladora, IA. After earning his business degree in college, he worked with the public in retail and apartment management in Iowa, Alabama, and Indiana. Don also worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids.

Don is survived by his daughter, Terry Collins of Austin TX, and son Mike Shaffer (Nancy) of Anamosa; grandchildren are Jason Collins, Zane Shaffer, Jacob (Jesse) Shaffer, Jennifer (Tim) David and Cody (Claire) Shaffer; great grandchildren are Hunter Collins, Brandon and Brenton Dvorsky, Raven and Pacey Shaffer, Jacob Lincoln and Johanna Shaffer, Rhett and Lennox Shaffer; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Lucy Smith his first wife Faye Smith, the love of his life, Lois Smith, his daughter Beverly and his six brothers Lawrence, Gerald, Kenneth, Wallace, Ray Jr., and Gary.

Dan took his career and business very seriously taking pride and making sure anything he was a part of doing was done well and done completely. In his retirement he showed his strength and dedication volunteering his time and energy to those who worked and lived at the Anamosa Care Center. He has been a great role model and has been an inspiration for others to be a better, harder working person giving support and guidance when he could. Anyone who has listened to his stories from the past could tell he told them with great passion.

A public graveside with military rites will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Garden of Eternal Love.
