Memorial

Madonna “Rusty” Jean Moore passed peacefully July 2, 2022.  Graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 6 at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor Andy Noble will be officiating at Iowa Cremation and Cedar Memorial Cemetary. 

Rusty is survived by her 3 children: Jackie (Jerry) Miles, IA, Ron (Darla) San Antonio, TX, and David (Holly) Jacksonville, FL.  She has 10 grandchildren:  Joshua Creger, Jessica Creger, Jillian Schenck, Matthew Kohl, Ashley Stacer, Jennifer Fischer, Heather Dunn, Carrie Brill, Kellie Tonelli, and Melissa Gross.  She has 23 great-grandchildren, and her sister Lois Lorraine Huber of Lincoln, NE.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gale Lee Moore, her brother Marlan Meyer, and her parents Earl and Florence Meyer.

Rusty was born In Castalia, IA on August 12, 1930.  Her family moved to Cedar Rapids when she was in the 8th grade.  She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and was a lifelong Lutheran.  She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha for many years.  Rusty graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947 and enjoyed roller skating and dancing during her teen years.

Rusty worked at the Cedar Rapids Credit Bureau, Sears Roebuck, and Collins Radio.

In 1950 she married Richard Kohl and they had 3 children.  She then took time off to raise her children. They were the joy of her life.

In 1970 she went to work at the CR Building Department as a clerk typist.  In 1975 she was promoted to city Zoning Inspector.  The job was a challenge to her, but she found it to be a very rewarding position.  She retired in 1995.  During that time she was a member of the board of directors of METCO Credit Union for 13 years.

In 1975 she married Gale Moore.  They were married 28 years.  She and Gale spent their time traveling together to AZ, HI, NV, TX, AK, FL and AZ.  They enjoyed time at these places with extended family and friends.  After retirement they moved to Mederville, IA.  They remodeled a home with the help of neighbors and family.  They lived there for 8 years.  They also became “winter Texans” at this time.  Their time in the Rio Grande Valley was a highlight of their lives.  They attended many music jams and loved to dance.

She returned to Cedar Rapids in 2002 after Gale’s passing.  She lived in, and loved her condo for 17 years.

Rusty was a bowler most of her life, tried her hand at golf, and always loved a good card game.  She enjoyed her time at the family cabin in Guttenburg, IA and was always up for a little evening cruise on the Mississippi river. Later in her life she became interested in crocheting and was a regular at the Salvation Army for a ladies’ craft and chat session.  She was an avid reader and loved a good mystery story.  Rusty loved music and spent many hours playing her organ.  Family sing alongs were one of her favorite activities.

She spent her final year and a half at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living.  She managed to find some afternoon card players there, and never missed an opportunity for a bus trip to an area casino.

Rusty lived a long and happy life, and was blessed with many friends and a loving family.
