Marvin Louis Tapken, 91, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Tuesday January 18th, 2022, at his home surrounded by many loving family members.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 25th from 10 to 11 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. The funeral service will start at 11 AM with Rev. Phil Jorgensen officiating.  Burial will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Marvin was born on October 23rd, 1930, to Louis and Minnie (Prull) Tapken in Monticello, IA.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life Janet Archibald on November 28th, 1954, in Monticello.  He was employed for 40 years as a Postal Clerk and 32 years as a Brinks Driver in Cedar Rapids.  He enlisted into the US Army in 1952 and served in the Korean Conflict guarding the Panama Canal. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and the time spent on their property at Wildwood Acres. He was a reluctant Cubs fan supporting wife Janet and enjoyed watching Western movies. He loved horses and tractors as well. He participated in many church functions and in earlier years enjoyed playing basketball and baseball in school. In his later years, he enjoyed taking care of his pets Saber and Callie.

He is survived by his children, Gary Tapken of Cedar Rapids, and Susan (Jim) Warren of La Crosse, WI, Brian Tapken, Eric Tapken and Nancy (Casey Harris) Tapken all of Cedar Rapids; brother, Don (Phylis) Tapken of Monticello, IA, and sister, Carol Gilds of Lakeland, FL; eight grandchildren; Laurie (Rob) Klein; Rhonda (Jason) Bowser; Staci Applegate; Katie (Russell) Tapken; Melanie (David) Simmons; Jennifer Tapken; Kara (Rusty) Merfeld; Lisa Tapken; along with several great grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Janet, a son, Merrill, and a sister Bertha.
