Memorial
Dean Edward Ard, Age 92, passed away at the Mercy Hallmar Hospice on Sunday, February 20, 2022.
A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Friday, February 25 from 4 to 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at Seeds of Faith Lutheran Church in Lisbon, IA on Saturday, February 26 at 10 AM with Pastor Paris White officiating. Interment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Heart.
Dean was born on January 14, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the son of the late Murphy and Mary (McGinty) Ard. On September 4, 1954, Dean married the love of his life, Marlys Jurchen in Minneapolis, MN. Dean was a Veteran in the US Navy. He worked at Rockwell Collins for many years, then he ran his own business until his retirement. Dean had many interests and hobbies including flying, boating, scuba diving, carpentry, electronics, hunting, fishing, cooking, guns and cross word puzzles.
You could always find him wrenching on something mechanical. Among his many restoration projects were a 1960 Chris Craft Cabin Cruiser and a 1946 Ercoupe. He helped build three houses and dove for the Linn County Sheriff’s Search and Recovery. An inquisitive mind and a thirst for knowledge led him to many new adventures.
Those left to cherish Dean’s memory are his son, Terry (Becky) Ard of Mt. Vernon, IA; his five grandchildren, Joe, Sonya, Andrea, Dennis, and Bailee. Dean was preceded in death by his wife, his son, David, and his parents.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Mercy Hallmar for all the love and support they showed Dean while he was in their care.
