Gary L. Cooper, Age 70, of Marion, IA passed away at his home on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Saturday, August 13 from 3 PM until service time at 5 PM with the Certified Celebrant, Dr. James Coyle officiating. Private inurnment to be held at a later date.

Gary was born on April 26, 1952 in Anamosa, IA. He was the son of the late Ernest G. and Erma (Grassfield) Cooper. He enjoyed “tinkering in the garage”, welding, horses, boating, and fishing. He is a retired veteran in the National Guard and also served in the Air Force. Gary worked for the City of Marion as an equipment operator for many years.

Those left to cherish Gary’s memory are his wife of 35 years, Deb Cooper of Marion, IA; his children, Jenny Willoughby of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Adam (Heather) Cooper of Des Moines, IA; his grandchildren, Deklyn, Avalyn, Isabella, Shae, and Dahlia; his siblings, Marlene Booth, of Central City, Jana (Craig) Wilson, of Hopkinton, IA, Rick Cooper of Central City, IA, and Larry Cooper of Hopkinton, IA; and the many neighbors, friends, and family who helped us these last few years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law, Geraldine Blazek, brother-in-law, Dennis Booth, and his great-nephew, Ben Pham. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
