Lyle was born September 12, 1935, in Udell, Iowa, the son of John M Matthews and Viola (Glessner) Matthews.  His birth mother passed on his 6th birthday.  In 1944 his father married Alma Knake who became his forever mom.

Lyle married Patricia Sramek April 5,1959.  They had 2 sons, John and Tim.

He is survived by his wife Pat, son John (Lizabette) Matthews, and grandchildren Holly (Dylan) Applegate and Jacy.  Special cousins who he loved like siblings.  Also, special nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

He graduated from Wilson High School, attended Coe College and the University of Iowa.  He served four years in the Air Force.  He started his career as a plumber with Modern Piping.  He later became an estimator and 1/3 partner of A’Hearn Plumbing & Heating.  He was proud of his profession and his partial ownership in a plumbing company.  He was a member of the Mechanical Contractors of Iowa and served as chairman for a year.  In 2000 he retired and sold his share of ownership back to the A’Hearn family.

Lyle enjoyed the Hawkeyes, Bears, and Cubs.  In earlier years he loved to bowl, play slow-pitch, and waterski.  Pat and Lyle were members of Elmcrest CC and played a lot of golf.  He was a member of the Executive Board for some years.  Family and many friends were his cherished blessings.

He was preceded in death by his Mother Viola, Father John and Mother Alma, son Tim, granddaughter, Heitina, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, mother-in-law, several aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and a nephew.
