Lenore Johnson was born on July 30, 1929, where she grew up on the family farm near Owatonna, MN, with her parents Harvey and Alice (Tollefson) Johnson and two brothers. She was affectionately nicknamed ‘Toots’ by her father at an early age and the name stayed with her all her life. She was a 1947 graduate of Owatonna High School. Lenore was united in marriage to Marshall Matejcek on August 22, 1953. Together, due to Marshall’s career, they lived in several Iowa towns before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1967. She held various administrative positions throughout her career, including jobs at Cedar Rapids Schools, FMC, and Norand.

For more than 50 years, Lenore was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She was very social and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She enjoyed playing bridge with her many bridge groups, meeting her friends for coffee, reading, and doing the daily crossword puzzle. She and Marshall loved traveling together including their winter trips to Florida, many cruises, and family time on the lake in northern Minnesota.

Lenore was always her kids and grandkids biggest cheerleader at their many sporting events and activities and spent many hours on the bleachers. She will always be known as a friend to everyone and having a kind and loving soul.

Those honoring her life include her children, Beth (Brent) Bartels, Lori Winder, and Sally (Jeff) Miller; her grandchildren Aaron (Amy) Bartels, Kara (Nate) Hewes, Ryan (Naomi) Winder, Matt Winder, Cole (Mallory) Miller, Kaylie Miller, and Paige Miller; her great-grandchildren Jackson, Camden, and Ellie Bartels, Kedon Hewes, and Maxlie Miller; her brothers Hilding (Eloise) Johnson and Gerald Johnson; along with many nieces and nephews. Lenore was preceded in death by her husband Marshall Matejcek in 2009.
