George E. Hoover, 74, of Cedar Rapids, IA at home passed peacefully into the arms of his savior with family by his side on September 9, 2021.

A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 5 to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be offered at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Thursday, September 16 at 11 AM with Pastor Eric Cleveland officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Tranquility.

George was born October 29, 1946 to William and Georgia Hoover in West Union, Iowa. He graduated North Fayette HS in 1966. After graduating, he went into the Army from 1966-1972 and was stationed in Germany as a chemical engineer and spy photographer. He met the love of his life Janet, working for Century Cab. He was later employed at Cargill for 30 years before retiring in 2006. On October 18, 1975 he married Janet. They were married for 38 years before Janet passed. He was an avid Nascar racing fan and was a member of the Cargill bowling league. He also enjoyed gambling, bingo, and time with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Rosalee Gruhn, his son Jonathan Hoover, his honorary daughter, Jill James; grandchildren Rebekah (Dawson) Hilbert and Camron Nutt; great-grandchildren, Nova and Bently Hilbert; his sisters-in-law Patricia Truesdell and D. K. Hoover, and several nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs, Hawkeye, Herky, Samson, and Willow; he is also survived by many honorary children and grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Janet Hoover, brothers Bill Hoover and Nathan Hammond, parents, and a nephew, Christopher Thompson.

George will be deeply missed by many.
