Memorial

Leslie “Les” H. Young, 83, of Solon passed away on Monday, November, 1st at his home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. with visitation being held an hour prior at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories.  

Les was born October 14, 1938 in Hesper Township in rural Winneshiek county, the son of Lester Philip and Helen “Blegen” Young.

Les graduated in 1956 from Spring Grove High school in Minnesota. From there Les’ journey steered him to the armed forces to serve his country. Les enlisted into the Navy where he honorably served from 1956-1958. 

Les was united in marriage to Virginia Young. From this union came three children, Michelle, Mike, Deneen. The couple later divorced. Les later married Carolyn on February, 29, 1988.

Les worked for Wilson Meat packing plant. He also served as a firefighter for the city of Cedar Rapids and was the owner and operator Soot Free Chimney Sweep. 

Les loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Minnesota Vikings. He was an avid fisherman. Les also enjoyed playing cards, but his greatest passion was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Carolyn; his children Michelle Young, Mike (Mary) Young, Deneen (Paul) Ritter, Jamie Trpkosh and her fiancé, Wally Glass and Tim (Jessie) Trpkosh; his grandchildren, Matt, Philip, Amber, Jordan, Kayle, Tyler, Brooke , Austin, Ella, Hadley, Cora; great grandchildren, Keaton, Bentley, Ellie, Finnegan, Rhett, Robert, and Brother, Mark ( Mary Jayne) Young.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Helen.
