Idona Sue Patton was born September 28, 1945 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Cornellia (Lang) and Erwin Siewertsen.  Sue graduated from Charles City High School in 1963.  Sue was united in marriage to John “Jack” Patton on November 7, 1964 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Iowa.  They were married for 55 years until Jack passed on May 25, 2020.  During their marriage, they lived in Atlantic, Charles City, and settled in Cedar Rapids in 1978.

Sue was an administrative/legal assistant and retired from the United States Attorney’s Office in Cedar Rapids in January 2008.  She was a volunteer for schools, churches, Make-A-Wish for fifteen years, and finished her volunteer career with over 500 hours at Especially for You.  Sue enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts, especially when shared with her children and grandchildren.  Her greatest joy was her family.

Those left to honor Sue’s memory include her children Marcy (John) Oates of Marion, Jennifer (Troy) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Annette (Matthew) Smith of Epworth, and Matthew (Tabitha McVay) Patton of Hiawatha; sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren with one arriving in September, and many honorary grandchildren; two sisters Olene (Al) Schroeder of Greene and Martha Torres of Waseca, brother Maynard Siewertsen of Rockford, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Patton, her parents, and four sisters.
