Memorial

Florence “Flo” Shoemaker, 92 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa passed away on Monday, March 29, 2021 in Johnston, Iowa surrounded by her loving family.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 5th at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.  Funeral services will take place at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 6th at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church: 8300 C Avenue, Marion, IA 52302.  Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. “Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required for the visitation and funeral service.”

Florence Shoemaker was born on November 1, 1928 in Maynard, Iowa the daughter of Marion and Lucile (Feemster) Reese.  Flo was united in marriage to Frank Shoemaker on December 30, 1943 in Independence, Iowa.  She enjoyed golfing, bowling, crocheting, knitting, gardening, and being outdoors.  Flo was a member of Olivet Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Flo was a homemaker. She most enjoyed the time spent with her beloved family and friends. Flo was a devoted and wonderful wife, mother, sister and grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Martha) Shoemaker of Norwalk, IA; Richard (Sandy) Shoemaker of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Bill (Linda) Shoemaker of Johnston, IA; grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Sowers of Burnsville, MN; Candace (Jim) Woods of Marion, IA; Andrew (Kristen) Shoemaker of Perry, IA; Jin (Lola) Robbins of West Des Moines, IA; Rich (Amanda) Shoemaker of Lincoln, NE; Scott (Amy) Shoemaker of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Robert Shoemaker of Cedar Rapids, IA; Dee (Frank) Dolezal of Urbandale, IA; Chris (Raffi) Maduro of Indianola, IA; James (Wendy) Shoemaker of Dexter, IA; Anne (Michael) Belshan of Omaha, NE; Karel (David) Roush of Waukee, IA; Ed (Noreen) Nixon of Orlando, FL;  great-grandchildren, Mara, Jimmy, Brandon, Nathan, Alayna, Emily, Trey, Joe, Elizabeth, Nicole, Alex, Catherine, Will, Jeffery, Joelle, Suzanne, Nathan, Matthew, Miranda, Amanda, Alyssa, Kaylee, Thomas, Kari, Margret, Alex and David ; 14 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Mary Pratt of Waterloo, IA; Pat Smejkal of Louisville, KY; David Reese of Rockford, IL; and Barb (William) Schriever of Cedar Rapids, IA; and  many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members. 

Flo was preceded in death by her parents; spouse, Frank Shoemaker; a daughter, Marian Nixon; three brothers, Don, John, and Paul.
