Memorial

Bradley “Brad” P. Thompson, 65 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 29th, 2021 at his home.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 5th at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Private services will take place on Tuesday, April 6th at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. “Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of facemasks or shields is required for the visitation and funeral service.”

Brad was born on August 12th, 1955 in St. Cloud, MN but spent most of his life in Cedar Rapids.  Brad worked at Quaker Oats for 42 years until his retirement in 2018.  When he was not making Aunt Jemima syrup, he could be found riding his Harley Davidson, keeping an eye on the neighborhood from his lawn chair in the garage or feeding the birds.  He was devoted to his dogs, Peyton, and Chloe.  He enjoyed traveling, fishing and the outdoors.  Vacationing in the mountains, going to Sturgis, experiencing Glacier National Park and rattlesnake hunting trips were among his most treasured memories.     

Those who knew Brad knew that he made friends wherever he went.  He was a good friend, a hard worker, a devoted family man and loved his grandchildren with all his heart.   

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl; children, Sara (Greg) Carson, Matt (Renae) Thompson, and Lauren (Jeff) Morris; grandchildren, Claire, Logan, and Hunter Carson, Scarlet and Ruby Thompson, Drew, Jeremy, and Remy Morris; brother, Bob (Sherril) Thompson; sister, Kathy (Gari) Green; mother-in-law Darlene Hartkemeyer; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen “Edna” Thompson and father-in-law, Bill Hartkemeyer.
