Tom Janik, 93 of Cedar Rapids passed away on Friday June 18th at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. He was born in Berlin, Wisconsin where he graduated from the Berlin High School. He was then drafted into the Army and served with the Corps of Engineers as a Surplus Disposal Officer in the Philippines. After his discharge he attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating with an MBA and pursued a career in marketing. In 1960 he came to Cedar Rapids as VP of Sales for Souvenir Inc. retiring in 1994 as President CEO.

In his retirement between tennis, pickle ball, golf, or lap swimming he was an active volunteer with SCORE and served a term as president and on its Boards for over 10 years. He also served on the Boards of the Cedar Rapids Country Club, CR Symphony, YMCA, The Exchange Club and Promotional Products International.

Along life’s way he met Elizabeth “Bette” Hoeller and married her in Shorewood, Wisconsin in 1954. Together they have shared a full and rewarding life for 67 years. He is further survived by 18 nieces and nephews, a sister-law and the Choi family. He was preceeded in death by four brothers, two sisters and his parents.

Per his wish, there will be no service in Cedar Rapids. His ashes will be inurned at Holy Cross Cemetery Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Memorials may be sent to Mercy Hospital Foundation, Cedar Rapids, Iowa or the charity of the donor’s choice.
