Richard L. Tharp, Age, 83, of Cedar Rapids, IA passed away at the Oldorf Hospice House on Monday, July 12, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on July 4, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the son of the late Donavan Tharp and Ethel (Johnson) Truman. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1957. He served in the Army Reserves for 12 years. Richard married Georganne Olin on June 21, 1959 in Cedar Rapids. He was an Ironworker for Local #89 for 42 years and Apprentice Coordinator for 30 years. He was a member of Mt. Herman Masonic Lodge, #263. He loved trap shooting, hunting, fishing and woodcarving.

Those left to remember Richard’s memory are his wife of 62 years, Georganne; his children, Susan (Robert) Dunning and John (Linda) Tharp; his grandchildren, Katie Stolba, Josh Dunning, Zach, Chris, Seth Tharp; eleven great-grandchildren; his siblings, Ron Tharp and Karen Thompson. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donavan Tharp, and his faithful dog Minnie.

A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, July 15 from 5 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories on Friday, July 16 at 1 PM with the Pastor Bryan Lund officiating.
