Memorial

Marjorie D. Ebinger, 98, of 428 20th St. NW, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, in her home.  Services: Private. Pastor James Perry will officiate.  A visitation will be held on Saturday January 9, 2021, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. As mandated by proclamation, social distancing must be practiced which requires a limited number of people to be allowed into the visitation at one time.  Facemasks or shields is required.  

Marjorie was born on February 2, 1922, in Redding, Iowa. She was the seventh of eight children born to George and Margaret Benton. Most of her childhood was spent in St. Joseph, Missouri. She attended Western Union College (later called Westmar) in Le Mars, Iowa, where she met her husband, Irvin Ebinger, and was also crowned homecoming queen her senior year. Marjorie and Irvin were later married in Hoskins, Nebraska, on March 26, 1944. She graduated college in May 1944, with a teaching degree. While Irv was serving in the military, Marjorie taught in California and Missouri. Later, they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they both taught for several years. She was a long-time member of Salem United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. Marjorie will be remembered for her infectious smile and the love she showed to her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Ebinger, her daughter, Becki Greer, three sisters, Fern Murphy, Gladys Dragoo, and Irene Hagerman, and four brothers, Ivan, Richard, Leonard, and Robert Benton.  

Survivors include her grandson, Todd Greer (Vicki), great-grandchildren, Caitlyn, Cayla, Celsey, and Cole Greer, all of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Squaw Creek Baptist Church or Salem United Methodist Church.
