Lucinda “Cindy” Rae McDonald, 77 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  A public visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21st from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.  Private services will be held on Monday at First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  A livestream for this service can be viewed at: https://firstlutherancr.online.church/ at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 22, 2021.  Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 54 years; Mike McDonald of Cedar Rapids, IA; three children, JP (Sue) McDonald of Marion, IA; Katie Chism of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Dr. Josh (Lauren) McDonald of North Liberty, IA; seven grandchildren, Andy and Allie McDonald; Colton and Cade Chism; Elaina, Elise, and Nora McDonald.  

Cindy was born on January 20, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa the daughter of Maurice and Miriam (Hungerford) Ritenour.  She graduated from Washington High School in 1962.  Cindy received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education from the University of Iowa.  She started her teaching career at College Community. Cindy retired from Cedar Rapids Community Schools after 40 years of service.  Cindy was united in marriage to Mike McDonald on July 9, 1966 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 

Cindy was creative, nurturing, fun, and humorous.  She loved to draw, paint, read, and spend time with family and friends.  Cindy contributed many volunteer hours, and much of her artwork, to the Mercy Auxiliary in Cedar Rapids.  She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Junior League of Cedar Rapids, and Gamma Phi Beta Sorority.  Cindy will be remembered for being a loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
