Bette J. Soukup, Age 96, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 at UnityPoint Hospice, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Bette June Brouillard was born on March 10, 1925 in rural Zwingle, Iowa, the daughter of Ford and Dorothy Brouillard.

Bette graduated with an English Major from the University of Dubuque, Iowa in 1946. She worked at Collins Radio as an editor from 1958-1986.

Bette will be remembered for her strong faith in Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior; her love of family and friends, writing in her daily diary, putting together 500 piece jigsaw puzzles, playing bingo, traveling and country music. She was a money counter at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hiawatha, Iowa for 20 years. She had many friends at church and always loved going to tea with the tea ladies. She enjoyed going to Bible study, flower gardening, feeding the birds, and thrift store shopping at the Goodwill and Salvation Army Stores.

Bette will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Bette is survived by four daughters, Bette Jo Plotner of Parrish, Florida, Jamie (Jerry) Brejcha, of Lakewood, Colorado, Susan (Shawn) Terjeson of Spokane, Washington, and Debra Hawes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Dirk) Ockerlander, Eric (Jill) Rogers, Aaron Rogers, Jessica (Cory) St. Clair, James (Ashlee) Brejcha, Jacob Brejcha, Katie Pegum, Kelly Beckman, and 13 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Luke, and Connor Ockerlander, Jenna Reid (Rogers), and Noah Rogers, Sloane St. Clair, Brayden, Mason, and London Brejcha, Timothy and Jonathan Pegum, Hannah Anderson, and Carter Beckman. She is also survived by her one brother, Kirby (Bonnie) Brouillard, a nephew, Jon Samusson. She was preceded in death by her husband James A. Soukup, her parents, Ford and Dorothy Brouillard, and one sister, Myrna Brouillard and many other in-laws.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 1 PM with Deacon Scott Zogg officiating. A livestream of the service will be available on the Cedar Memorial website under Bette’s obituary, under the video tab starting on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 1 PM. Interment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Eternal Love. 

The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at UnityPoint Hospice and Willow Gardens Care Center for the compassionate care they provided to Bette.
