Prayers and comfort to the family. Your dad left his mark on anyone who met him. I will forever treasure the friendship we had as kids playing ball at Van Vetchen/Jane Boyd. We developed a bond for life. He will always be a brother from another mother. A legend gone way to soon. Peace buddy!! You will always be with me!! His smile was the best!!

So sorry to hear of Larry's passing. I grew up in a wonderful neighborhood with the Mims, the Marshalls and all of us, the Beardsleys. What a great time we all had. Prayers and love to you all.

We extend our thoughts and prayers to Larry's family, his friends and our Class. As Brian shared, Larry left a mark on all us, starting for me with my first SE side little league team. I wasn't the biggest boy either. I was grateful to be a teammate of your father. Your dad had the final swing of that season for our team. We lost our first game in 18 or 19 games played on a 50/50 ball, which my future best man made the play. I can still remember him on the bench, after the game. I enjoyed later having him as a classmate/teammate in junior and senior high school. We both ended up in the State of Nebraska for college. Larry in Lincoln and I in Omaha. From our Tucker family to the Mims family, we extend our condolences to everyone blessed to know Larry.

I have such fond memories of growing up with Larry. From playing football on the asphalt playground at Johnson Elementary, to playing baseball at Redmond Park and basketball in the alley with the entire Mims family, it was always a joy to be with Larry….especially when you were on his team! My heart goes out to the entire Mims family, both young and old, and I am so thankful for the friendship that I shared with Larry.

To the Mims Family: It was an honor to have coached your father at Indian Hills CC. Larry epitomized the belief that it doesn't matter what your height is, it's what's in your heart. It was a joy to see him compete but even more, to have known him as a person. He will forever be missed.

To the Mims family, my prayers and thoughts are with all of you and your extended family . I will always cherish your beautiful smile and love for others. We grew up with you on 2nd Avenue and spent time hanging out. Love you all and may your memory be eternal ?? ? ???

Peace n love to you all, I knew Larry in K/1st grade and remember him as my friend way back then, I saw what he accomplished in life with sports etc, but family is the true meaning and it sounds like he was always that happy, kind person I remember as a young boy. I wish you many fond memories and always smile and know he is with you.

Can’t believe this news, very heavy hearted. Grew up playing baseball with Mike at Van Vechten/Jane Boyd like Graddy said he did with Larry. The name “Mims” was synonymous with baseball prowess to us locals and Larry was a huge part of that, a local legend having played at Nebraska. I always held Larry in the highest of regards if only by reputation (and knowing and respecting Mike by association) and then got to meet Larry if you will via social media and then occasionally seeing him around town (it’s easy to spot a Mims with that shortstop build, haha). Love and prayers to the Mims family. Our hearts are with you during this difficult time. Thank you Jesus for the gift of eternal life and for gifting Larry with an eternal soul.

Mims family, So sorry to hear of Larry's passing. He was a pleasure to be around at the ballpark and was always a gracious, humble person.

It was an honor to know Larry and be a teammate of his at Nebraska. Thoughts and prayers

To all the Mims’ families, we offer up our condolences, prayers and ask for God’s peace. The Marshalls were fortunate to grow up in the same SE side neighborhood with the Mims family, back when everybody knew everybody. I was privileged to have coached Larry as a youngster in the Cedar Rapids Kids League at three levels - in 10-11 (year-old) 12-13 and 14-15. He was one of the most quiet, humble, and gifted athletes I have known, and hands down the best player I ever worked with. Larry was diminutive in size, but a natural athlete with a drive to play the game the right way. Not only was he a five-tool player, but he was also unmatched fundamentally thanks to his diligent work ethic. Larry had a keen awareness of in-game situations and a selfless determination to help his teams be successful. Many of us witnessed his early progression in baseball. We were thrilled to see him selected five times in the MLB draft. Personally, I was blessed to meet up with Larry once during his professional career, on the back fields of West Palm Beach Stadium in the spring of 1988. He was about to embark on his best season for Class A Hagerstown (Md.) of the old Carolina League. Words here cannot express the honor, gratitude, and joy that moment bestowed on me. I loved Larry. May God be with his, and all the Mims’ families, as you mourn his passing, and plan the celebration of his life.

To Mike, Bruce, and Mims Family. I extremely sorry to hear about Larry passing. Great baseball player and that is an understatement and very personable and friendly person. Certainly, enjoyed the times playing ball with Larry in the Iowa Valley League as well as Mike and Bruce. Wonderful person, gone way too soon. Best Wishes and Sympathy to the Mims Family. My he rest in peace

I first met Larry at Van Vechten/Jane Boyd when he was on the opposing team and he was a dominant talent and great competitor on the baseball field. Later, Larry and I became good friends and I spent time at his home and the entire family always made me feel welcome, especially Mr. and Mrs. Mims. Later, life was good because Larry and I were on the same team at Washington, and Larry was the key weapon to our success! Larry was an amazing athlete, but he was an even better person. I also have many fond memories of Larry and Julie, and my wife Shauna and I, spending a lot of time together. Unfortunately, Larry and I didn’t stay connected after Baseball was over, but I’m comforted that I was able to reconnect with Larry over the past couple years, and again very recently, and say some things that were important for me to say. My deepest sympathies are with the entire family during this sad/difficult time. Those that are remembered are never truly gone. RIP Larry! I love you buddy!

To Larry's children - Larry Jr., Christina, and Bobbi and his grandchildren. To Mrs. Mims and Larry's siblings. Larry touched a lot of lives. Nothing like what each one of you experienced in your time with Larry. Good or bad, all that matters now is the good. Larry left a huge mark that will be with you forever. He left a mark on his friends too. Many friends. Like many others, my first experience in meeting Larry was on a baseball diamond. I competed against Larry on the baseball field at Van Vechten going all the way back to age 9. Kid's League - back in the day when we all road our bikes to VV. Mimsy threw gas when he was on the mound and he dominated Kid's League. Great hitter, fast, the envy of his teammates and his competition. Fortunately, I was blessed, feel blessed to have played baseball with Larry for a couple of years on the Wash and American Legion teams. And while I knew Larry best on the field, as an amazing athlete, his smile and his laugh, is something that I will always remember. Those laughs probably were the result of some fun with Jonny Meier or Johnny Beck(field). And many of his other teammates. The list is too long! So to the memories. We will all hold onto the memories. Good memories of your son, your father and grandfather, your brother and our friend, Larry (Mimsy). Let's celebrate his life! Peace and God Bless. Kirk

Ann and I met the Mims family in the early '90s as I somehow was able bring Larry's exceptional baseball skills onto a fast-pitch softball team. Whether we needed Larry on the infield or in the outfield he showed the smoothest fielding and throwing skills on the diamond. We enjoyed his play on the field but even greater was the opportunity to enjoy time with Julie and the family as LJ and my son Andrew would play catch behind the stands at almost every game. Those memories will always be with us. Our prayers to Julie, Larry Jr., Christina and Bobbi. Rest In Peace Larry.

To Larry's family: Larry and I were great friends growting up. We met at the YMCA and Metro Youth football. He was friendly, competitive and an exceptional athlete. We had so many experiences together. He was my wrestling partner, baseball partner and friend. I will miss him deeply and wish the family my best. God bless Larry, RIP!

We are very sorry for your loss. Larry was a great teammate and a good friend. Larry was one of the best ball players Terry ever played with or against. He was always up for a conversation about his favorite game. He will be missed. Please accept our condolences.

Julie, My heart goes out to you and your family. Gordy told me his Dad heard Larry passed away. My heart breaks for you. I have such fond memories of you and so glad I was present when you were married. My love and prayers to you all!

I am so sorry for your loss. We immediately bonded when we first met. Conversation came easily. What a great guy! Sending prayers of love and light. May he Rest in Peace.
