Memorial

Dr. Robert Keith Dennis left his earthly journey on August 23 after battling multiple medical issues over the past several years.

He was born November 8, 1929, to George and Edna (Smith) Dennis, and spent his early years in Mechanicsville, Iowa. After graduating from Iowa State University in 1952, he taught in Lone Tree, Iowa, where he established the first chapter of FFA at the school. A special bond with his students still remained.

In 1962, he earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Iowa State University and established his first clinic in Orange, California, specializing in small animals. Subsequently, he had a practice in Boulder, Colorado for 21 years, before retiring to his farm in Iowa. He was a life member of the American Veterinary Association, the Colorado Veterinary Association, and a former member of Rotary, receiving the John Harris award.

He enjoyed his many years of Bible study fellowship, and the relationships formed gave him fond memories.

The last few years were spent on the farm where he took much pride in maintaining the 1839 Lewis Homestead farm. He was an encourager and supporter of his wife’s endeavors to preserve Lewis Bottoms heritage.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Georgia McCalley. He is survived by his wife Eloise Beatty Dennis, with whom he cherished 64 years of marriage, a special niece and nephew, Sherry Failor of Ankeny and Bill Failor of Waterloo, and a great nephew and niece. Also surviving are nieces Denise Murphy and Jacquelyn Kimberlin and several great nieces and nephews in Tucson, Arizona.

No services will be held at this time due to Covid concerns. A note of remembrances of Bob would be most welcome to Eloise.

Memorials can be made to the Robert K. Dennis Scholarship Fund at the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation.
