Virginia was such a sweet person! Our deepest sympathies to her family. We knew her through St. Jude’s, living on Sue Lane for many years and the Hanzelkas. May God grant her eternal rest.

I have lived on the NW side of Cedar Rapids since childhood. As a child your mother was a fixture at the MeToo store, then it was good to see her reappear at HyVee. Funny how you can “know” a person so long but never really know them. However, after so many encounters at the register you knew the kind of person she was. She was consistently kind and considerate and yet she had an aura of quiet sternness and righteousness that earned my respect for her. (Remember I was a child running loose at MeToo) She was a lovely lady and I would bet, as she was wonderful in her working career she was probably an even more wonderful mother, grandmother , and friend. I’m sorry for your loss may she Rest In Peace

Growing up near the Me Too grocery store, Virginia was always there with a smile. More important than her welcome, friendly demeanor, was her nonjudgmental treatment of all. You see, my mom had “housewife’s anxiety” where she had panic attacks when in public. However, your mom was understanding and had the patience of a saint. She never said a disparaging word or stigmatized my mom. Now, as a psychologist in my professional life, I appreciate her understanding of treating each other with dignity. Truly, she was one of a kind! Our condolences to Jeff, Denise, and the family.

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Virginia at Me Too when I was in high school. She was so nice and would always help if we had questions. In later years I started shopping at Hy Vee and saw her working there. She was a grocery store icon. So friendly to everyone and always seemed like she was happy. My sympathies to her family and her Me Too/Hy Vee family.
