JoAnn (Aanenson) Barmore, 83, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, September 2, 2019 at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House, Hiawatha. A Visitation will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 6.  Services will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 11 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, officiated by Pastor Trish Decker.  Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

JoAnn will be forever loved and cherished by her husband of 60 years, Gary; children David (Sue) Barmore, Daniel (Teresa) Barmore, and Douglas Barmore.  She is also survived by six grandchildren: Emily Barmore, Madison Barmore, Hannah Barmore, Amanda (Sean) Starr, Amber (Kevin) Darling, and Andrew Barmore; and 4 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Otelia, four brothers: Orville, Norman, Gordon, and Howard, &  Eight sisters: Thelma, Alfie, Olga, Alma, Norma, Opal, Ramona and Orla, and a great-grandson, Hendrick Darling. 

JoAnn was born on April 26, 1936 in Luverne, Minnesota.  She was the youngest of 13 children.  JoAnn graduated from Luverne High School in 1954.  While at a dance in 1956, she met an old classmate, Gary Barmore, who had returned home from the Army.  They were married on December 27, 1958.  They made their home in Luverne while Gary finished college and JoAnn worked at Tri-State Insurance for seven years.  JoAnn was a stay at home mom raising their three sons.  In 1974, Gary and JoAnn moved to Cedar Rapids. JoAnn went to work at Von Maur where she worked for over 20 years until retirement.  She enjoyed having lunch with friends and playing cards on Friday nights.   JoAnn was an active member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, was a member of the Naomi Circle and met many friends at Curves.  JoAnn also enjoyed spending time with her family during holidays, especially at Christmas.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids or Mercy Care Hospice.
