Roscoe Phipps

Born on Sep 22, 1948
Departed on May 27, 2019

Roscoe was always friendly.

To the “Phipps” family I offer my condolences. You all played an instrumental part in our lives growing up in some form or fashion. As much as I was angry with Roscoe, at one point in time Roscoe was instrumental in our lives in helping raise his biological son, Gregory A. Phipps and his stepchildren: Tonaya S. Jacobsen, Gerald D. Phipps, myself and other family unmentioned in his obituary. We shared many holidays together. He worked hard to make the holidays magical. Roscoe was a Jane Boyd Baseball Coach. He loved watching baseball, football, and wrestling. One memorable trip we took was to Missouri for great grandpa Phipps birthday. He was the lead singer and guitarist in his band “the Highlites” I was fortunate to go sing with him at a gig. He spent many a days as a delivery driver for Hach Brothers and later worked with his father at Ogden & Adams. I hadn’t seen my youth “stepdad” in years, in fact the last time was when his step granddaughter Teresa was friends with my daughter, Courtney and she got to go spend the night with her friend at his house. There are so many good memories we all can share during this sad time for family. May these memories I’ve shared help make you smile during a heartbreaking time. My heartfelt prayers to those I love dearly and whom have been instrumental in my upbringing. Roscoe will be missed by many - especially those who knew him best.

I was the drummer for the "Highlites" for a few years... some nights were so-so, but there were nights when Roscoe was on, (on what??) and they were magical...that old Gibson and the Fender Super Six made for the "Roscoe Sound" . and he had a voice...show me the way to go home...

Please accept my sincere condolences to the family. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Roscoe. The Bible assures us at Psalms 34:18 that God is near to those broken in heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your many memories help you find peace and comfort as you go through the coming days.
