I am so sorry to hear about Fr. Jerry. His family lived across the street from mine from the time I was little and our mothers were friends. All the neighbor kids called his parents Nana and Daddo and you could always get cookies in their kitchen. I haven't lived in Cedar Rapids for many years but would often run into Fr. Jerry at events when I was visiting. It was always great to catch up on the local news with him! He was a wonderful reminder of the "good old days" and a good example of what we expect from our clergy. He concelebrated my mom's funeral and his homily that day was full of stories and ended with an Irish poem. I will always be grateful. I extend my sympathy to his family . . . especially to Susie Condon. We used to play together when her family would visit.

Dear Condon family: I have 2 sweet memories of Fr. The first being that he married Jeff and I almost 28 years ago and his homily was about love and you being able to tell when people are in love they show it through their eye contact!! Also My dad (Leo Greco) would ask Fr. what song he wanted to have played and it was always SPANISH EYES!!! He will be missed. I kept in touch with him by cards and notes and he always returned a note back!!! God bless you all. Lisa and Jeff Rehman

So many of us formed a warm bond with Fr Condon. He was always humble, non-judgemental, and portrayed a sincere interest. He had so many friends. We always enjoyed his humor and his sports enthusiasim. Father always insisted that our prayers were just as well heard as "his priestly prayer". Our children were in the altar serving stage when he was at St Matthew. He was a good influence on all our lives. One time, not long ago, he was an inpatient at Mercy when we visited him. Our son was climbing Mt Ranier that day.. So when he inquired about our children, we told him about our concern for our son's safety. Later a nun came in to offer a prayer. Father asked to include Nathan. Our son later told us he was about to turn back when he came to the ladder over a 400 foot crevasse. He wondered if that prayer gave him the strength to continue on. We will miss and never forget how special Father Condon was.

Fr. Jerry was my wife's classmate and a treasured friend for many years. We hoped he could give our eulogies, as he had the Irish gift of a way with words and seemed to understand the problems of the average man far better than most. He generously shared precious time and stories with his old I.C. friends , as well as those he made throughout his life. We thank GOD for knowing him and having him as a friend . If there's a direct flight to Heaven, I'm sure he's on it. (In the First Class Section))

So sorry for his loss. My sympathy to his family.

Father Condon was the priest at my church, St. Matthew's, when I was growing up. I have so many fond memories of him with religious education, church gatherings and times he spent with my family. My parents continued to stay in touch with him after he left St. Matthew's Church, and he was an important person in our lives. Father Condon was always so kind, welcome and caring. He's who all priests and church leaders should be like, and was deeply devoted to his faith and life's work. My deepest sympathies to his family. He will be missed!

Rev Condon was a good friend of my brother Ed Lipp. They would caddy together so many years ago. He also officiated at my daughter's wedding. We exchanged Xmas cards every year and he always wrote on them. I will miss hearing from him. My thoughts and prayers are with all his fear friends and family.

Fr. Jerry was a classmate of my brother Lou at Immaculate Conception School - I think for all 13 years - so I’ve known him since I was a little girl (& now 83!). When Mom was at Hallmar so was Fr. Jerry’s mother and he visited her, too, along with many others. His homilies were full of home-y stories that touched everyone. And, as this wonderful photo shows, also given with a humorous twist. Thanks, Fr. Jerry, for living your retirement in Cedar Rapids so we could see you now and then as you continued to serve in the various parishes here. Vaya con Dios...

With deepest sympathy, Linda McNamara Earley
