I am heartbroken to learn of Carolyn's passing. After high school we lost contact and connection. Her loss was shared by a mutual friend of ours and it's hard to fathom. Her personal and professional accomplishments in life didn't surprise me, as she was always an amazing friend and giving person with a beautiful bright personality, loved by so many. I met Carolyn when she started working at UIHC. She had the brightest eyes, the warmest smile and the most beautiful laugh! Her spirit and her heart were always an inspiration. Her mom Kathy and I are in a Red Hat Group together. I met Carolyn after major surgery that I had at UIHC she was my night nurse. My sincere sympathies to her family through this difficult time. Carolyn is now one of gods angels in heaven. She will be missed by everyone and I am sure her children very much.

Wow, where do I start. I met my friend back in 1998, I was 23, and she was 24 yrs old. We met in Fort Hood Texas, and we were both in the same unit. We immediately hit it off and became close friends. I am also close friends with her ex-husband Terry Shade! I spoke to her about a year ago, and asked her if she would be in my wedding, and she said yes. I pushed my wedding back, so I did not get a chance to see my friend. Lastly I had a nickname for her, and I have called her this instead of her name since we met. Her name was “BIG B”!!! The name was due to me never seeing a beautiful white woman in my life until I met her, that was so thick and no fat on her at all!! She took to the nickname and it stuck all this time!!! I love Carolyn Barnotes Shade, and I always will. She was like a sister to me, and I will never forget the good times we had! RIP my friend, and I will see you again. I love you “BIG B”!!!!!??????

I met Carolyn in Korea yonsong she had just arrived in county and was having a smoke after lunch my co-worker and I both were very drawn to her. We both worked at the 121 general hospital her in Pediatric and I in the kitchen. We ended up on the same floor in the Barack’s and we and several others girls had quite a good time over in Korea. We lost touch after I left but I was always thinking of her. She showed me kindness shared secrets, shared love Plutonic all the way. She was the most amazingly beautiful young woman inside and out. Reading what people say about you now is no different then when I knew you. I am saddened that I wasn’t storing enough to be your friend in those early years, what you gave to me in Korea no one has ever been able to top. You are amazingly beautiful I will always love you!??
