Robert Allen Lorenz Sr., 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully on January 20 at the Donna and Dennis Oldorf Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.  

A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 23 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm.  The funeral mass will be held on January 24 at 10:30 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.  Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, followed by a luncheon at St. Matthew.

Bob was born on March 20, 1928 in Iowa City, Iowa, to parents Robert Herman and Marie Henrietta Lorenz.  He graduated from the University of Iowa in June of 1951 with an engineering degree.  He later served in the Army during the Korean War.  He then went to work at Collins Radio and later retired from Square D.  

At a Heralder’s dance he met the love of his life, Elaine Heitz.  They were united in marriage on June 14, 1958.  They were able to celebrate their 60th anniversary in June, 2018, before his beloved wife passed away in July.  Bob loved collecting coins and stamps, gardening and investing in the stock market.  His family was always the source of great pride and he was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Bob is survived by his seven children, Bob (Deb) of Cedar Rapids, Mary Mikkola (Ron) of Marion, Dick (Jenny) of Marion, Jim (Mollie) of Marion, Theresa Whittlesey (Pete) of Fairfax, Paul (Annette) of Cedar Rapids and Kathy Franz (Scott) of Cedar Rapids.  He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, Jennifer Dechant (Drew), Amy Crnecki (Zach), Holly Sitzmann (Eric), Christine Goslar (Jake), Danielle Manternach (Dave), Travis, Brooke, Emma, Leah, Blake, Richelle Caslavka (Zach), Zach, Delaney, Heather Bohl (Brad), John, Matthew and Michael; his eight great grandchildren Avery, Chloe, Owen, Henry, Aubrey, Emmett, Roy and Thomas, as well as 2 more on the way; a sister Ellen Lorenz, a brother-in-law Jack Heitz, niece Linda Kral (Eric) and a nephew Bill Heitz (Julie).

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to charities that were meaningful to Bob - Catholic Relief Services and Mercy Hospice.
